Hi there!! We've wrapped up our fun May Arts week with Stampendous, and now I'm kicking off a fun new regular feature on my blog...Stampendous Saturdays! Every Saturday I'm going to share a great Stampendous project, usually accompanied by a tutorial. Occasionally, to spice things up, I'll throw in a challenge instead of a tutorial. And the best part? There will be blog candy!
Today I'm starting off with a quick and simple gift you can make - a stamped candle! I made one of these for the newest Stampendous catalog (I'll show you that one another day) and was so pleased with the results I thought I'd make another one, and share how I did it.
First, gather your basic supplies:
- tissue paper (white)
- candle (any size)
- wax paper
- heat gun
- Stampendous stamp(s)
- ribbon (mine is from May Arts, of course!)
I used a water-based ink on purpose, so that the fabulous image I chose (a CHA Summer release from Stampendous, called Cling Jumbo Romantic Border - it's in stores now and will be on the website soon) would bleed a bit once I stamped it on my tissue paper. I wanted a thick, bold impression. If you look at the stamp itself (in the first pic, with the supplies), you can see that there is much more detail on it. I stamped my image onto the tissue paper, and then cut it out as close to the image as I could.
Wrap the wax paper around the candle, and pinch it together in the back. Your wax paper should be wider than your image, but not your candle. You can see that I folded the top of mine over a bit, so it wasn't taller than my candle. Once you are pinching the wax paper tightly in the back, turn on your heat gun and quickly go over the paper - don't hold it in one spot too long, or you'll melt the candle! You'll see a bit of sheen on the candle, as the wax melts a bit. That's normal, and it's what you want to happen.
Slowly pull the wax paper off of the candle, and discard it. Your tissue paper should be mostly invisible now. See where the arrow is pointing? It's a bit lighter there. That is where I didn't melt the candle enough to hold the tissue paper. To fix any errors like that, just turn the heat gun back on for a second, until the paper melts into the candle. Just tie a bow around the candle, and it's ready to give away!
Now, for the fun part: the candy! I'm giving away this fabulous Poppy Bottles Perfectly Clear Stamps set, courtesy of Stampendous:
