This is the outside of my book. It's actually Mixables Sassy 8x8 album; some pages are acrylic and some are chipboard. Before getting started, I painted the chipboard pieces with acrylic paint and set them aside to dry. I once again turned to my favorite inks, from the good folks over at Tsukineko. To create the cover, I used Stazon Jet Black and Forest Green directly on the acrylic (I stamped on both sides, for visual interest). Then I sprayed some of their Goosebumps texture spray (have you tried this stuff? It is super cool!) and poured on Black Glass Glitter and Chiffon Color Fragments (links to all Stampendous products are at the end of this post). Fun fact: see the pages with the type coming out of the typewriter? I actually masked each one, and stamped portions of the Dream Text background in the appropriate direction!
Inside the book I attempted to fill it with all sorts of small envelopes and notepads, to create an actual book that someone could use. I stamped the gears around the edges of the chipboard in Tsukineko's Versamark ink (I'd be lost without this stuff!) and used small pieces of cotton to apply different colors of chalk to them.
Throughout the book I used several other inks, from what is hands-down my favorite line of Tsukineko inks...Memento. There's Tuxedo Black, London Fog, Gray Flannel, Espresso Truffle, and Peanut Brittle in here! Through a bit of trial and error, I discovered that the Stazon inks work best on the acrylic pages; I used Memento or Versamark everywhere else. But that's the beauty of the Fran•táge technique - it helps cover mistakes!
On the pages above I included two types of notepads. The small blank ones are post-it notes, for doodles and such. The spiral notebook was fun to create. I disassembled it, painted the backside with acrylic paint (I glued the front piece to the chipboard, rather than try to paint over the royal blue), and stamped on it. Once I put it back together I adhered it to my chipboard!
The next to last page in my book just has two larger envelopes on it, for stashing paint swatches or receipts or whatever strikes her fancy :) I am really hoping she enjoys using this book as much as I enjoyed making it for her! Isn't it fun to do something special for someone?
